By law veterinary consent is required for treatment of horses with pre-existing conditions under the Veterinary Surgeons Act 1966.
-
Recent updates to the Veterinary Surgeons Act state that as long as your horse is healthy and you are scheduling a maintenance massage only, veterinary consent is not required. However, your horse still needs to be registered with a veterinary practice.
-
Consent only needs to be obtained once. Should any new suspected conditions arise during treatment the horse will need to be referred to their veterinarian since therapists can not make a diagnosis. If this is the case, treatment will be terminated until the veterinarian has given the go-ahead.
-
Consent can be obtained by A.K Equine Sports Therapy directly providing contact details are passed over. You are also allowed to obtain this consent; a form will be provided by A.K Equine Sports Therapy. You do not have to use this form if contacting them yourself, as long as the veterinary practices form discloses any existing conditions and treatments.
